This course mostly consisted of watching important Japanese films starting with films from the 1950's to contemporary films. We delved into the important aspects of what made each film such a significant importance to the Japanese film industry .The first films were black and white films which dealt with the Japanese country-side which includes samurais. As the semester proceeded we eventually got to colored films which quite frankly was very refreshing. We seem to take this technology breakthrough for granted, especially those of us who were born after the introduction of said technology. We got to watch the first Gojira (Godzilla) movie which interestedly was the first film of its genre. Not only was it a movie about a giant lizard but most importantly about the possible effects of nuclear warfare. All the films were strictly in Japanese meaning that we had to solely rely on english captions. Being a language major, i did pick un a few Japanese words. Moreover, I mostly learned about certain Japanese cultural aspects. Some of these ways was their point of view, morals, and how they view business. After we finished watching the films we would get in groups and discuss various cultural aspects including what we liked and disliked and our overall impression of the film.
